Band Of Gypsys

2008 Capitol Records reissue/remaster of Hendrix’s Band Of Gypsys, catalog STAO-472, presented as a sealed single LP on red vinyl at 33 1/3 RPM. The front cover retains its shrink wrap and carries the gold “From the Capitol Vaults” hype sticker identifying this as a special edition red vinyl, 180 gram, audiophile-quality pressing, with the dark performance image of Hendrix and the bright red guitar neck cutting across the sleeve.

The back cover reproduces the original live-album presentation: Band Of Gypsys lettering at upper left, the trio credited as Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles, and Billy Cox, and the six-song program of “Who Knows,” “Machine Gun,” “Changes,” “Power of Soul,” “Message To Love,” and “We Gotta Live Together.” The notes state that the material was recorded live on New Year’s Eve 69–70 at the Fillmore East in New York, produced by Heaven Research, with remixing and engineering supervision credited to Eddie Kramer.

This copy remains sealed, with the outer sleeve and record assessed mint to near-mint. A clean collectible reissue of the 1970 live document, it keeps the album’s stark black stage imagery and saturated concert color intact while adding the visually distinctive red-vinyl format.
