About Us

What you see here today is a work in progress dedicated to moving and inspiring you and improving your day. At its core Brooks Alley is a time capsule of mid century modern culture filled with extraordinary artifacts that encompass music, art, books, posters, clothing and more.

Much of it is rare, blow-your-mind sort of stuff, from a uniquely creative period in the 20th century that changed the world. And that is not an exaggeration.

At the time it raised questions opening a dialogue between young and old, liberals and conservatives and anyone with a heart and mind about love, power, war, authority, justice, freedom, liberty, happiness and unbridled joy. In sum it was about beauty and what it is to be human.

While times have changed, that quest still touches all of us deeply. Those who grew up during that time and those who didn’t are still asking many of the same questions and trying to find their way in an often confusing world.

Read on to learn more about Brooks Alley and these important themes upon which we rest and specifically how this collection came to exist. If you want to skip all that go right ahead and simply go after the fun. We believe there’s an abundance of it here, waiting for you to dive in.

And one quick footnote;

While it should be self evident, we hope the ethos of Brooks Alley comes through loud and clear in the words you read here, or hear when you speak with one of us on the phone.

Yes, indeed you can call us (how crazy is that) and actually speak to a human being about any item you’ve seen on the site, or a story you’ve read or watched, or anything.

That ethos is tied tightly to everything going on here and means we try to do the right thing and be thoughtful. This also applies to pricing and product condition: We are not interested in mining your every move and filling up your email or the pages you’re browsing with advertising or generic slop. We are not interested in badgering you incessantly to get something out of you (we won’t).

In return we hope you’ll show us courtesy and understanding and perhaps take an interest in being part of our success and the passionate community of like-minded souls we’re trying to build. So please don’t smirk when we ask for your email.

We’ll never share it with third parties. We’ll only use it to send you info about content we’re developing that tells the stories of the creative geniuses we’re hanging around with and who produced all of this treasure.

We think all of this is important and believe you do too.

The Back Story...

What you see here is part of a big effort to give life and presence to an incredibly beautiful collection that was assembled with great passion over many years by the ever so cool and smart dude at the top and bottom of this page, the infamous Topher Brooks.

A deeply loved brother and friend to many and an essential part of a group of creative misfits, including yours truly who are committed to creating a legacy in his honor by sharing the things he loved and cherished with all of you.

Like the exquisite artifacts you’ll soon discover here, his is a story to be told a little later. For now, we are honored to present this joy-filled, remarkable treasure trove of unbelievable gems to you and the world as we suspect our friend Topher would have wanted before he transitioned to another dimension.

As the collection contains many thousands of items, it’s an exhausting set of tasks to do properly and carefully. Given the scale of the effort, these pages will surely change often in the coming days. Like archaeologists, sharing their latest discoveries with the world, we’re inviting you to join us in the daily discovery of new jewels.

We hope you will feel almost as excited as we are by participating in the archival process as we meticulously blow the dust off and examine each of these unique finds.

While these items and many more are for sale, our true mission is to share the beauty they represent and leave you feeling inspired, renewed and smiling. That’s what the Brooks Alley collection does for us.
