Vintage Violence

1970 John Cale Vintage Violence LP on Columbia, stereo catalog CS 1037, a sealed single 33 1/3 RPM vinyl record from Cale’s early solo Columbia period. The pressing is not verifiable without opening the shrink, and it is not represented here as a first pressing; the record and outer sleeve are recorded in Mint/Near Mint range, with the important caveat that the disc and labels remain uninspected inside the sealed package.

The front jacket presents the album’s arresting close-cropped painted portrait, the title printed directly across the forehead, with the Columbia Stereo CS 1037 mark at upper left and a small vintage price sticker still present over the shrink. The shrink wrap shows natural age rippling and light surface scuffing, especially along the top area and corners, while preserving the cover’s glossy, confrontational image.

The rear cover carries the John Cale/Vintage Violence heading, Columbia logo and catalog number, a two-side track listing, and production credits naming John Cale and Lewis Merenstein, with John McClure listed as executive producer for Columbia Records. Also visible are the album’s character list, literary back-cover text, and a black-and-white photo composition, placing the record squarely in Cale’s post-Velvet Underground milieu while retaining the strange, theatrical precision of the original package.
